'I didn't think my senior rescue would ever actually love me. Today he proved me wrong': Grumpy 10-year-old cat refuses to show affection to new owner, owner comes home crying one day and his cat finally snuggles on him purring

Cats take time to get close with, but once you do, there's no going back. 

The stereotypes about cats and dogs continue to prove themselves true. Everyone knows how easily lovable and affectionate dogs will be. Their big smiles and wagging tails let us know how much they love us, and their loyalty goes far. Cats on the other hand are usually more protective of themselves. They are capricious with their behavior, and they don't show love to just anyone or all at once. Cats are skeptical and judgmental, there's a strange dance of push and pull when it comes to getting to know a cat. It's just written in their DNA. So when this person adopted a 10 year old cat from a shelter, he really didn't know what he was getting himself into. The cat was grumpy, and the shelter warned him that the cat wasn't affectionate and just liked to be left alone (in typical cat ways). For six months, the guy didn't know if the cat would ever warm up to him. It was like they were roommates, and the cat would just sit across the room and stare at him, but he didn't want to be touched or play. 

It was a rough day at work for the guy, so he came home and laid on the couch crying. Then, everything changed. The cat jumped up awkwardly on his chest out of nowhere and started purring louder than he'd every heard. He fell asleep there with his chin on the guy's shoulder. He now knows what he didn't before, that the cat actually does love him, he just needed some time. This is a really wholesome story, and heartwarming indeed!

  • Senior cats can be a lot more difficult than a kitten or adult cat. When you adopt a senior, you really don't know their temperament or who they are, and they might have trust issues with you as well. If you have a cat from a young age and grow up together, then it isn't as difficult to deal with. There's something brave about adopting a senior cat from a shelter right off the bat, and as we can see in the story it makes a big difference to adopt an adult or kitten or senior cat.
